Sox Recap - game from August 13th, 2009

OR.... Tip Your Caps boys, you got "it" handed to you

It was a glorious day at the Fens yesterday !!! Ok ok ok.. it was overcast, "rainey", 69 degrees (which is NOT cold BTW, DeCAF !!!), the Sox lost, the Yankers and Rangers won, you can no longer smoke at all on Yawkey Way (that poor snot-nosed security kid whom they dumped the job of telling half-intoxicated fans they can only smoke down the street around the corner in a back alley, on.... seems like a lot of work for a nic fix) ...

AND first and foremost...... the pregame show was held in the studio instead of Yawkey Way.... So I was SOL (and you know what that means) in my quest to "view" Kathryn Tappen.... (depression set in) Nuf Ced

It was Tickets for Troops Day at the Fens... There was a splendid pregame ceremony honoring them.... and with all due respect to our men and women in uniform (I honestly appreciate all you do for our country)..... I actually prefer a bit of Alice In Chains or Nickleback between innings (like USUAL) as opposed to the US Army Band's version of... of..... of anything, for that matter... sorry....

Amidst all the progressive negativity, the day certainly had some bright moments....

The lifelessness of the Sox' bats was by no means their fault... they ran into a buzzsaw of a pitcher in the name of Justin Verlander.... OBVIOUSLY one of the top pitchers in the league... now I know how opposing fans feel when they have to face Josh Beckett...

Verlander was offering high cheese with more moss than Eck could ever dream of.... pitches #122 and #123 in the 8th inning registered 100 mph on the gun... AND, for the record Mossman (Eck) ... in your mid 50's, perhaps it's time for a "big boy cut", no??? ... maybe Don can hook you up with his barber.... uhhhhhhhhh.... Nuf Ced

Anyway, a few bright spots.... Clay Buchholz is gluteus maximus free today as he pitched it off yesterday... Tito, how's about flopping the rotation to give this kid a chance against a less formidable foe... I may have jinxed him in the 2nd inning by uttering...."This kid has no-hit stuff today".... oops........ sorry dude... BUT, you pitched a hell of a contest, none the less...

V-Mart finally broke his Fenway hit drought... ok, so it was only 2 games.... but, he collected 2 hits and even "stole" a base.... uh, technically, but it wasn't pretty... better work with him Jacoby... Nuf Ced

Chris Woodward (who ?!?!?!) was sporting, uh..... BRUISES as he got plunked not once, but TWICE (where's Youk when ya need him ?!?!?! hopefully at the Kowalski Wrestling Academy as I "speak") ... following the second HBP, I "urged" Woody (uhhhhhh) to charge the mound !!!! if only to break up the monotony of what was turning into a boring game... causing me to be virtually "comment free"... Ok, I'm lying... like I could ever keep my mouth shut... But I recall asking DeCAF.. "How the [heck] can I recap a game like this?!?!?" Nuf Ced

Hopefully, I found a way.....

So, the Yankers won.... extending their AL East lead over our boys to 6-1/2 games.... the Rangers won, closing our lead over them in the Wildcard race to 1/2 game.... Dare I say this weekend series against the Rangers is a TAD important ?!?!? Nuf Ced...

Johnny Lester takes the hill tonight in Texas... a weekend series that could leave the boys... "Condition Critical" (Quiet Riot)..... NUF CED

As always... it's been real... it's been fun... and it's really been a lot of fun....

check back early and often... the blogs are rolling now....
